Plum Apple Crisp

4 cups (1 L) sliced pitted plums
2 cups (500 mL) sliced peeled apples
1/3 cup (75 mL) packed brown sugar
2 tbsp (25 mL) all-purpose flour
1 tsp (5 mL) ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground nutmeg

Crisp:
3/4 cup (175 mL) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (175 mL) packed brown sugar
3/4 cup (175 mL) quick cooking (not instant) rolled oats
1/3 cup (75 mL) butter, melted

Preparation
In large bowl, gently toss together plums, apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Arrange evenly in greased 8-inch (2 L) square glass baking dish.

Crisp: In separate bowl, combine flour, sugar and oats. Drizzle with butter; stir until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over fruit mixture.

Bake in centre of 350ºF (180ºC) oven until bubbly, topping is golden and fruit is tender, 45-60 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Makes 6 servings.

***To make this gluten free:
1) substitute corn starch or tapioca starch for the 2 T all purpose flour to mix with the fruit.
2) substitute 3/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill biscuit & baking mix for the 3/4 cup all purpose flour + 3/4 cup of rolled rice flakes (get in health food store or organic foods section) for 3/4 cup rolled oats.
